Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are dilated or full to bursting veins of the rectum and anus, caused by increased pressure in the rectal veins. They involve the blood vessels that line the anus. Number three: Apply petroleum jelly or zinc oxide paste. According to studies, these two substances work as well as other expensive creams. With wiping, dab a small quantity of either petroleum jelly or zinc oxide paste on a cotton ball and apply to the inflated area.
